Converting Adobe Illustrator (AI) Files to PNG and JPG for Free

Adobe Illustrator (.ai) files are the industry standard for creating logos, vector graphics, and complex illustrations. However, because it's a proprietary vector format, you cannot simply upload an .ai file to a website, email it to a client for preview, or post it on social media.

To make the design usable for the web or general sharing, it must be exported to a standard raster format like JPG or PNG.

No Illustrator? No Problem.

If a designer sent you an .ai file and you don't have an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, you might think you're stuck. Thankfully, modern web technologies allow for the conversion of these complex vector math files right in your browser.

How to Convert AI to PNG or JPG

  1. Find Your AI File: Ensure the file has the .ai extension.
  2. Choose Your Format: If your design has a transparent background (like a standalone logo), you must convert it to a PNG using an AI to PNG converter. If transparency doesn't matter and you want a smaller file, use an AI to JPG converter.
  3. Upload and Process: Drag and drop the file into the online converter. The tool interprets the vector paths and renders them into a pixel grid.
  4. Download: Save your new, universally readable image file.

Maintaining Quality

Because .ai files are vectors, they are resolution-independent. When converting online, look for tools that render the output at a high scale (e.g., 2000px wide) so the resulting JPG or PNG remains crisp and sharp for all your presentation needs.
